Joann Larkee, Owner of Beneficial Landscapes LLC
Joann will arrange a meeting with you onsite at your property to discuss your vision. You will walk the property with Joann as she measures each section and assesses its sun exposure, shade levels, proximity to available water resources, and other considerations. During the consultation, Joann will take several photos to accompany her notes.
After leaving your property with detailed onsite consultation visit documentation and photos, Joann will review her notes and begin researching plants best suited for your property and vision. In her research process, she will focus on meeting the standards of the nine principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™, as defined by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.
Considering your vision combined with property measurements, environmental factors unique to your property, and photo documentation from your onsite consultation visit, Joann creates a hand-drawn rendering of her recommendations to fulfill your vision, including notes about her research, explanations about plants she selected, hardscaping ideas (if applicable), and links to informational resources about each plant.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) is an approach to landscaping that promotes environmentally friendly practices and water conservation in Florida. The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) developed the FFL program in collaboration with other organizations and agencies.
FFL encourages property owners to invest in landscape design that conserves water, protects water quality, engages in wildlife-friendly practices, includes proper plant selection, practices responsible fertilization practices to prevent nutrient runoff, promotes an integrated approach to pest management with as little chemical use as possible, and utilizes organic mulch to its full benefit.
In total, there are nine principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ as defined by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS):
By implementing these nine principles, Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ aims to create sustainable and visually appealing landscapes that positively impact the environment, conserve water resources, and reduce the harmful effects of traditional landscaping practices. It is an essential aspect of Florida’s overall effort to protect its natural resources and maintain a healthy ecosystem.
